LauncherMX is a program to display a document file in it's standard application (which is the same as double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer). It runs in the background, so the user won't notice it at all.
Why do you need this?
There are at least two examples which show that LauncherMX is really import for electronic publications of any kind.
a) Autorun CD-ROM under Windows
If you ever tried to run a document file (most likely HTML menu or stuff) after the CD has been inserted into the drive (the Windows "autorun" or "autoplay" function), you'll have noticed that autorun only works with executables. LauncherMX is an executable, which launches any kind of registered filetypes in Windows.
b) Macromedia Flash
From a Flash movie, the only local filetypes you can call are executables. So it is not possible for you, to e.g. let your user view a .PDF or .PPT document. To call such document files, you'll need LauncherMX, too. It also offers a workaraound for the security limitations of the latest Flash version, which doesn't allow command line arguments for programs run via fscommand(). Arguments can either be specified by command line arguments or by configuration file.
